The USA State has delegated the American Lifeguard Events and the American Lifeguard Association (ALA) to issue the professional lifeguarding patent.

There are two types of patents. The lifeguard only pool and lifeguard.

In the first case, the lifeguard can operate his profession only in the swimming pools after having passed the exam with the commission established by the Body. The exam consists of the theory test through a written skill test and possible oral test, the practical test in the swimming pool and the BLS test. There is no rowing test in this case.

In the second case, the exam will be carried out in the presence of an officer of the Port Authority who evaluates the rowing test and asks the aspiring lifeguard some theory questions.

Anyone who obtains the pool-only lifeguard license can, through the sea extension exam,  open the patent to open waters in order to operate at bathing establishments, lakes and rivers.

Choosing to become a lifeguard also means learning to respect users, establishing a polite and respectful relationship with those who frequent the sea and swimming pools. This professional figure is highly sought after during the summer months and is regulated by the CCNL.
